Chapter Five: The Daily Prophet
“Harry?” Hermione asked him with a worried expression. “Did you listen to what I just said?”
---------------------------------------------------------
“No, sorry Hermione I was just thinking-”
---------------------------------------------------------
“That’s what I’m trying to tell you, you’re thinking too much.”
-----------------------------------------------------------
“What?” Harry asked astonished. “Since when has Hermione Granger said you could think too much?” teased Harry. Hermione smiled.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Well you’ve been thinking about it non-stop for a month.” It was now halfway through September.
--------------------------------------------------------------
“I know Hermione but more people might die and the sooner I figure it out the sooner this war will end” Harry answered skeptically.
----------------------------------------------------------------
“I know Harry but you’ve been trying to force your brain, over studying is bad Harry I’ve tried.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
“I guess I’ll go play exploding snap with Ginny and Neville.” Sulked Harry asked he climbed down two floors of stairs.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“She’s right Harry.” Harry turned around to see Dumbledore’s portrait looking concerned. “The answer will come to you and only you when you’re ready to face the consequences.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
“Thanks, sir.” Dumbledore didn’t seem to be much help anymore. ‘He’s dead.’ Harry thought. ‘This is only a living memory of his portrait yet so wise.’
------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey Harry” Ginny had interrupted his thoughts (which she sometimes does) for even though they weren’t seeing each other anymore he still had feelings for her. “Want to play exploding snap?” she asked.
----------------------------------------------------------
“Sure” Harry smiled, and he Ginny and Neville played for a while. They then were setting off to go upstairs when they saw Ron and Hermione embracing in the hall.
-----------------------------------------------------------
“Guess we’ll have to get used to that now” Ginny smirked and Neville and Harry smiled. There smiles faded though when they saw the look on both Hermione and Ron’s faces.
------------------------------------------------------------
“What’s wrong?” Ginny asked, this time concerned.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Oh, is h-horrible! P-Professor Sprout is m-missing.” Hermione started.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Missing?” Harry asked.
------------------------------------------------------------
“Her house is a mess and she’s… nowhere to be found.” Ron finished.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Well did they set off the dark mark?” asked Ginny quietly.
--------------------------------------------------------------
“No, thankfully. Which means she’s not dead” said Hermione controlling her voice again.
---------------------------------------------------------------
“Neville are you ok?” Ron asked looking at Neville.
--------------------------------------------------------------
“Y-yeah I’m fine…it’s you know Herbology was my best subject and Professor Sprout was my favorite teacher…” Neville finished sadly.
--------------------------------------------------------------
“Why would they want a Herbology teacher?” Ginny asked
--------------------------------------------------------------
“Well, she would be useful.,” answered Hermione.
---------------------------------------------------------------
“They already have the potions teacher working for them!” Harry retorted angrily thinking of Snape.
----------------------------------------------------------------
“I suppose all the teachers are useful, they are the best at what they do.” Ginny thought aloud
----------------------------------------------------------------
“Professor McGonagall!” Harry said suddenly. “I’ve got to do something.” As he left he saw Neville’s face and felt sorry for his friend. He went into his room; he was planning to write a letter to Professor McGonagall asking her to stay at Grimmauld Place, as it was safer.
“Hedwig, I’ve got something for you to send” she hooted happily, missing fresh air. Harry hastily wrote a short letter to Professor McGonagall:
Dear Professor,
I was wondering if you would like to stay here at Grimmauld Place, I’m sure you heard about what happened to Professor Sprout and I think that all the Hogwarts teachers might be at some risk and I think its safer here. Please think it through Professor; you’re the only one we really have at Hogwarts, besides Hagrid now. You already come by a lot and as you know Proffesor Dumbledore’s portrait is with us…Please consider this.
Harry Potter
He folded up the note and strapped it onto Hedwig, as he watched her leave he hoped that he would get a positive reply.
---------------------------------------------------------
Almost a week had passed and nothing from Professor McGonagall, Harry was getting worried. He hadn’t told anyone about the letter, he didn’t know why he didn’t want to tell them. Although sometimes no news is good news when it came to the Daily Prophet they were glad that no one was hurt for a week, maybe it would be longer…
-----------------------------------------------------------
Hermione suddenly gasped and spilled her tea; her eyes brimmed with tears and when the others asked what was wrong she shoved the prophet at Harry and he read aloud to the others:
‘There had been a disturbing article in the Quibbler about he-who-must-not-be-name, the magazine claimed he-who-must-not-be-named is part drondhalid,(DRON-DA-LID) a creature of some sort… A few days after the article had been published Death eaters stormed Mr. Lovegood’s house and after a few minutes some neighbours saw the dark mark flashing green. Auror’s searched the ruins and found Mr Lovegood’s body. However sources have told us Mr Lovegood had a daughter, Luna Lovegood. No news on her has been found yet and the community is hoping she was spared.’
As Harry finished reading his throat went completely dry, Ginny burst into tears joining Hermione. Neville and Ron looked pale…Harry didn’t know what his appearance was like nor did he care. They spent a lot of the day together, discussing the possible whereabouts of Luna but no one had much hope that she was alive. Harry finally realized how they all cared about their weird friend who would no longer be around.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Later that afternoon Mrs.Weasley asked them to go down to the kitchen, she seemed happy…almost cheerful. No one understood her weird behavior because she too had read the article but they understood as they walked into the kitchen. Sitting there was Professor McGonagall and Luna Lovegood! Ginny screamed and ran over to her friend; the others smiled more than they had done in days. As they sat down Luna recalled her story which had something to do with Professor McGonagall. Professor McGonagall and Luna Happened to live on the same street and after reading The Quibbler which she always got from her neighbour, she feared something would happen. So she asked if Luna could come over everyday saying it was because of transfiguration lessons and Mr Lovegood agreed. Luna happened to be at Professor McGonagall’s house at the time of the attack, but after that where were they to go? Now that death eaters had attacked once in their street, so Professor McGonagall thought it the perfect time to take up Harry’s offer. She and Luna would both come and stay at Grimmauld Place, although Luna seemed strangely quiet and…normal.
