Chapter 1
'Hurry up, we're going to be late!' Rosie shrieked, running down the corridor toward the Great Hall and her Defense Against the Dark Arts exam. Her best friend Ginny Weasley ran behind her, her black robes rippling as they ran. They skidded to a halt outside the doors of the Great Hall. They hurried in to find their classmates already seated.
'Hurry up, girls, you're late,' Professor Flitwick squeaked from his pile of books at the front of the hall. Rosie and Ginny found seats at the back, and took their quills and ink out of their bags.
'The examination begins now.' Flitwick heaved the hourglass over and the students began the test.
'Name three ways the werewolf differs from a true wolf.' How do they differ again? Rosie nearly sucked her quill but remembered that it was filled with ink, not sugar.
The werewolf differs from the true wolf because... it has a tufted tail, Rosie wrote. Its snout shape is different, What else?
'Rosie,' Ginny whispered. 'Are you okay? You look really flushed.'
'I'm fine,' Rosie whispered back. 'Just nervous.'
'Me too,' Ginny replied.
'Get back to work, girls,' Professor Flitwick said as he passed.
'Yes, professor.' the girls chorused. They went back to their papers.
'Time's up!' Professor Flitwick declared when the sand in the hourglass had run out. 'Accio!' All the papers flew up to Professor Flitwick, who had learned his lesson years before and ducked. Rosie stood up with the rest and left the hall with Ginny. Ginny's brother Ron was waiting for them.
'Hi, Ginny, hi Rosie. How'd it go?' he asked.
'All right,' Rosie answered. 'We were late again, but I think I did all right. I couldn't remember where kappas come from, but overall I think it was good.' Ron laughed.
'Kappas come from Japan,' he said, 'but don't ask Snape. He'd tell you it came from Mongolia.' Rosie and Ginny laughed.
'Where's Hermione?' Ginny asked.
'In Arithmancy. Even though she doesn't need it for her career, she wants to keep taking it anyway. Says it's fascinating.' Ron replied. 'Harry's waiting for her. She's nearly done.'
'Everyone in here for the practical exam!' Professor McGonagall called.
'We'd better go,' Rosie said. 'Bye.'
'Bye,' Harry and Ron said.
Rosie and Ginny hurried into the room with everyone else to wait for their names to be called. Ginny sat down and opened a book, as her name would be called near the end. Rosie was happy because no matter whether you did it by first name or last, she was always in the middle.
'Creevey, Colin' was called, and Ginny smiled at him reassuringly as he passed. As Colin was a member of the D.A., there was no doubt in Ginny's mind that he'd do well. More students were called, and as they did not return after the exam, Ginny had no chance to ask Colin how he'd done.
'Macmillan, Rose--' Rosie's head jerked up and she left the room with three other 'M's.
'Professor Marchbanks, then, Macmillan,' directed Professor McGonagall, who was standing at the door, telling students who to go to.
'Right,' Rosie thought. 'This shouldn't be too hard.'
After she was finished, she had a very different idea. But, she thought, she may have scraped an E. She had never been very gifted in Defense Against the Dark Arts. She was much better at Transfiguration.
When Ginny came out, looking ashen-faced, Rosie asked how she'd done.
'I somehow turned Professor Tofty's hands into spotted mushrooms,' she said in a hollow voice. 'I've never been that bad at Defense Against the Dark Arts.'
'Come on,' Rosie said, 'you can't have been that bad.'
'Why is that a surprise?' came a drawling voice from behind them. 'She's a Weasley.'
'Go away, Malfoy,' Rosie said.
'Or what?'
'Or I'll turn you into a ferret,' she snapped, 'as I'm quite gifted with Human Transfiguration.' Malfoy's pale face went paler.
'C'mon,' he muttered to Crabbe and Goyle, and they left.

I'll finish the rest of the chapter later, as I'm just writing it into the box. Hope you like it. I'll probably change the title, but that was all that I could think of.
