Chapter One
“Oi, Snivellous!” James Potter bellowed from the marble staircase. Snape spun around, his face livid with fury. He marched towards James through the empty entrance hall.
“I’ve had enough of you James, with your hair and your broomstick. You are nothing but a cocky teenager whose so full of himself he can’t even see-“
*BANG* Snape blocked the curse.
James glared at Snape.
“Now, Now Snivellous, play fair.” He said starting down the staircase.
“Get away from me potter…*SECTUSEMPRA*,” the spell sent James a couple of steps up and then he slid down to the bottom of the staircase where he lay crumpled, blood pooring from his chest and face.
“You better put him right before a teacher finds you, Severous.” Said a cold voice from behind him.
“Maybe this will deflait his head a bit. Ha Ha!”Snape said, sneering.
“Make him right or…or…I’ll hex you and you’ll be sorry.” LiLy Evans head appeared in Snape’s line of vision. Snape grudgingly muttered the counter curse and continued to glare as LiLy swept forwards to help James up.
“He’ll need some ditiny to rid him of his scar’s, before his beautiful face can once again be back to normal.” Snape picked up his fallen bag and turned to go.
*BANG* Snape was thrown against one of the walls and he promptly hiccupped and a slug slid down his chest.
“You deserve that…Snivellous!” Lily spat, helping James to his feet and stalking past Snape hotly in the direction of the hospital Wing.

“He’ll need a good bit of Ditiny and lots of rest.” Madam Pompfrey told LiLy as she put a nasty smelling potion on Jame’s face and bear chest, “It was lucky you were there to produce the counter-curse Miss Evans or the damage might have been worse.” Lily felt a guilty twange in her gut. She had not told Madam Pompfrey who had conjured the horrible curse, only that she had set the counter-curse. Madam Pompfrey turned to put the bottle on the bedside table and Lily caught site of the patient in the bed opposite them. His face was mangled and bloody. She recognized his fair hair. His name was Amos Diggory and he was in Hufflepuff. By the looks of it, he had been mauled by a werewolf. His handsome features were cut and distorted. She silently prayed Lupin was safely changing in the shrieking shack ALONE.
“Who cast the spell?” Madam Pompfrey asked titling a cup into James mouth and with another guilty pang, Lily replied,
“I didn’t see them. When I arrived they were already gone.” She told no one-not even Dumbledoor_ who attacked James and to this day she has not told a soul.

Chapter 2
“Lily…I came as soon as I heard…” Serious said, blustering through the portrait hole and splattering snow everywhere as he brushed off his cloak. Lily was crying by the fire and Serious rushed over to her. She had her face in her hands.
“Oh Lily.” Serious moaned, rubbing her back affectionately. He sank into the armchair next to her.
“You couldn’t have done anything to stop it, had you been there. That spell isn’t in the books.” Serious said, his hand moving along her neck and brushing her hair out of her face. She slapped his hand away, her eyes red and firey.
“You should talk,”She sobbed, “Running off to the Shrieking Shack every chance you get. Breaking rules for the pure fun of it. You’re no better than Snape.”
”Lily,” Serious said with determined calm, “Think what you’re saying. Snape is a dark wizard. How can you compare us to him?” Lily glared at him malevolently. Then her face fell and she sighed.
“I’m sorry. You’re right. It wasn’t my place. I think I’ll go to bed.” Serious looked at her sympathetically.
“Lily are you sure-“
“I’m fine.” Lily replied quickly, looking away, “Just tired.” Serious gave her a half smile. Lily returned it and headed up the girls staircase to bed.

The week Madam Pompfrey finally let James out of the hospital wing, he was subdued and melloncolly before he realized Snape had been the one to curse him. He didn’t tell Serious or Lupin but instead he set out to find Snape. What he did find did not please him. When he opened the Mauraders Map and whispered, “I Sollemly swear I am up to no good, “ Snape’s tiny labeled dot was nowhere to be seen. With the map still open, he headed down an empty corridor. It was not a Hodsmeade weekend and most students were studying for their N.E.W.T’s that would take place in a couple of months. Snape couldn’t have apparated out of the grounds. He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t see the girl walking towards him till it was to late.
“Ouch!” The books she was carrying went flying and the map slid from James grip. He hurridedly rolled over on his stumache and tapped it, muttering,
“Mischief managed,” before he turned around to help the girl with her books. She was very pretty, with silky black hair that hung about her shoulders and black eyes. He handed her a couple books.
“Thanks.” She smiled. He smiled back. One of the book shad skidded away and James hurried to pick it up. It was a potions book opened onto a potion of no importance. What interested James was the incantation scrolled on the side of the page. It said “Sectusempra,” headed by, “For Enemies.” He picked it up and was still staring at it when the girl tried to snatch it away. He snapped it shut and held it out of her reach. She wasn’t hardly shorter than him and has she jumped, could’ve taken it from him. But she wasn’t trying. Only smiling.
“What’s a girl like you doing with a book like this?” He asked in a low voice. Her smiled widened.
“Never you mind.” James stared back into her eyes and slowly lowered his hand but did not give the book to her. She held onto it and tried to pull it away, “Don’t be mean, “ she said giving him a puppy dog smile. His grin widened. They were so close he could see the pitch black pupils of her eyes. He leaned forwards to kiss her when a voice punchuated the silence,
“OI !!! Get away from my girlfriend!!!” Harry and the girl jumped apart. Lucious Malfoy strutted down the hallway towards them, his robes billowing out behind him, his wand out. Harry gave the girl a look that planely said,
“You’re going out with this goon?” She giggled.
“What did I tell you?” Malfoy drawled, coming up on the two of them, “Ahhh…Potter…just out of the Hospital Wing? How would you like to make a return visit?” He sneered.
“Mmm…sounds so tempting…but I’ll pass…” James flicked his wand and Malfoy was hanging upside down. James began to walk away.
“Why you…” Malfoy spat a mouthful of nasty words at James and he sighed and flicked his wand again and Malfoy collapsed in a heap on the stone floor, glaring at James.
“See yah round…uh…”
“Bella…” The girl said not looking up from where she was crouched beside malfoy.
“Bella…hmmm…” James waited until he was back at the fat lady’s portrait before he pocketed the book.

Chapter 3
Snape stuck his greasy head out of the door to the room of requirement. The corridor was deserted. He stepped out and turned to close the door. There was something shimmering next to it. He bent to pick it up. It was a piece of black hair.
“Potter.” He snarled through clenched teeth.
* * *
“Bella!!!” Snape shouted as he walked into the Slytherin common room. Bellatrix looked up from the book she was looking at. Snape stood in front of her, his face red with anger. Her smiled drooped and Malfoy (who was sitting next to her) removed him arm from around her shoulders. Bella shut the book with a snap and stood up.
“Where are my books?” Snape hissed.
“Over there, Severous,”Bella said in a bored sarcastic voice, pointing to a table in a corner of the room, “They’re all there. Potter had a funny interest in your advance guide to potion making.”
“Yeah and in my girlfriend-“
“Oh don’t be such a drama queen Lucious.” Bellatrix snapped crossing her arms and glaring at Snape.
“Funny you should mension Potter, Bella.” Snape hissed, “I found this outside the room of requirement.” He brandished the pieces of hair. Bellatrix took them from him, “I thought I told you to keep watch!!!” He spat.
“I did…then Potter practically bowled me over…he had his nose up some parchment. He picked up your potions book and was staring at an open page then I tried to took it from him and…” She froze.
“AND!?!?!” Snape bellowed, his face crimson with a twinge of green.
“I don’t know…I think he took it.” Bellatrix said, positively shaking now.
“He has…he’s got…mine…you haven’t…you didn’t…” Snape wasn’t yelling but his face was leaning much more towards a nasty shade of jade now and he whispered the words with a voice that gave you the sense he was talking to the lowest, dumbest creature on the planet. Bellatrix looked as though she was about to cry but she held her ground. Malfoy was on his feet as well now, his hand on her shoulder.
“He was after Bella, not your book. Can’t you see-“
“ARGH!!!That book was all I have!!!” Snape spat and pointed his wand to malfoy, “REDUCTO!!!”Malfoy went flying backwards and hit the wall. A trickle of blood seeped from the side of his white head.
“Stop it Snape STOP!!!” Bellatrix screamed. She also drew her wand, “STUPIFY!!!”Snape blocked her spell and turned to her.
“You…you LOST IT!!!You despicable, incapable, USELESS LITTLE GIRL!!!” He raised his wand again but Bellatrix screamed,
“EXPELLIARMUS!!!” And Snapes wand flew into the air and Malfoy, who had pried himself from the wall, caught it. There was a nasty gash on his forehead and his eyes were white fire. Snape continued to glare at them.
“Don’t you get it? I gave you that book so you could keep it safe. Not give it away to the first handsome boy you meet. I suppose he lulled you with one of his quiditch tales did he? Or with the one where he cursed your dear friend Sn-“
“You know very well I don’t like the Potter boy. I’m going out with Luciouc. Theres not a lot else in this world, Severous.” Her eyes glowed dangerously and Malfoy looked at her a little shocked then sneered and looked back at Snape. Snape looked from Malfoy to Bellatrix then back again.
“Very…very well…I’ll…I’ll just be going to bed then…” Snape was at the staircase up to the boys dormitories before he spun around and added, “I hope you choke on his tongue Bella.” And with one last glowering evil grin he marched away with his head held high.

Snape lay awake long into the night, trying to think up some way to get James Potter back for the humiliation and misfortune he had caused Snape throughout his time at Hogwarts. By four aclock in the morning, he had a vague idea of what he was going to do. He ate a hurried breakfast and headed for the headmasters office at half past nine.
“Drumble Best Blowing Gum.”Snape said loudly and clearly. The gargole lept aside and Snape stepped onto the moving staircase. He nocked three times on the door before Dumbledoors cool voice said,
“Come in.”
“Proffesore,” Snape said, closing the door behind him, “I need to report something.”

James had just sat down in his first period charm class and was openly flirting with the girl behind him when Proffesor Flitwick entered the classroom, strode up between the desks and stopped at Jame’s. James ruffled his already messy hair and smiled.
“Yes Proffesor?” He asked nonchalantly.
“The headmaster would like to see you Potter. Go now if you please.” He squeaked. Jame’s eyebrows creased suspiciously but he kept smiling.
“I will sir.” He picked up his bag and made to leave. Serious cought his eye. He shrugged and headed out.
“Drubels best blowing gum.” He said without inthusiasm. The Gargole however, jumped aside with all the happiness and joy that James had not used in his request. He climbed the spiral stair case instead of waiting for it to move for him and only had to knock once before he was admitted. Dumbledoor was sitting behind his desk and next to his desk stood…
“Snivellous.” James hissed under his breath, not taking his eyes off Snape who was, in turn, staring back at him.
“Please close the door James and sit down.” Dumbledoor said calmly and James could almost ditect a hint of a smile on Dumbledoor’s kind face. James closed the door and took the seat opposite Dumbledoor.
“Perhaps you should sit down too, Severous.” Dumbledoor offered. Snape sat down but perched himself on the very edge of the seat as if ready to bolt at any minute.
“Severous has told me he thinks you are stalking him.” Dumbledoor said smoothly, gazing at James over the tops of his Half moon spectacles.James eyes rolled up so he was looking at his black hairline and he leaned back in his chair, running one hand through his hair.
“Snivellous…I mean Severous here. Does he have any proof?” He asked, not taking his eyes off Dumbledoor.
“He says he found a piece of your hair at the door of the place he was and that one of his friends ran into you in the same corridor.” Dumbledoor said, “It is also common knowledge that you boys are constantly duleing in the corridors. Something of which I would hope you would both stop, the ceiling and walls are old and I wish them to keep standing a while longer.” But James was sitting up straight now, his back rigid. There had been no doors in the corridor where he had met Bellatrix.
“Please Sir…I was mearly taking a walk, having just gotten out of the hospital wing. I would never…stalk anyone. Especially Sniv-Severous.” He said, a half smile etched into his cheek.
“Mm.” Dumbledoor said, piercing him with his crystal blue eyes and giving James the feeling he was being X-rayed, “Alright then Severous. You may go. James, please wait a moment.”
“But-“ Severous’s face was redder then it had been in the common room when he had been yelling at Bellatrix.
“I will deal with Potter. I believe he was not stalking you. Please Severous, lessons.” Grudgingly, Snape picked up his things and made to go. When he had shut the door Dumbledoor said quietly,
“I don’t know what you’re up to James, but it isn’t safe to be wandering around the castle alone these days especially…” he petered out, “After others. I suggest whatever is bothering you, you let go. I know it’s difficult sometimes. But I often find a cup of tea and a good nights sleep helps.” He smiled at James. James returned the smile half heartedly.
“Is there anything else you wanted to tell me?” Dumbledoor asked. And it was almost as though he knew, knew Snape had cursed James, knew that James had been looking for Snape to finish him off, or at least put a decent hex on him-James was awfley good at the full body bind-knew all this had happened and why he was here. James took a deep breath and tried to keep his voice steady.
“No sir.”

thanx. I usually don't like writing them but I like reading them so this was a first. ow my fingers hurt from playing the guitar. I haven't played in a while so my calusus aren't built back up and it hurts to type.
